Famous musician Paul Heaton is showing his gratitude to supporters by treating TRNSMT festival-goers to drinks. The talented artist, known for his work with The Beautiful South and House Martins, will be performing at the Scottish festival alongside other notable acts such as Pulp, The 1975, Sam Fender, and Niall Horan.
To mark the festival’s commencement and provide some assistance during these times of rising costs due to inflation, Paul has generously covered the tab for fans preparing to enter the TRNSMT grounds. In a statement shared on social media, he expressed his intention to combat what he referred to as “the cost of greed crisis,” cleverly playing on the widely discussed and disheartening concept of the cost of living crisis.
“Glasgow, as a thank you, and a small amount of help during the cost of greed crisis, Paul is leaving some money behind the bar at a few local pubs near the TRNSMT festival so that some of you can have a drink on him tomorrow afternoon,” he wrote.
Paul specified that the gesture would continue “until the money runs out or the bar runs dry!” Multiple pubs in Glasgow have been fortunate recipients of Paul’s generous gift, including 226 Gallowgate, The Old Burnt Barns, Lynch’s Bar, The Braemar Bar, The Tolbooth Bar, and Whistler on the Green. Although Paul explained that he chose these venues primarily due to their proximity to the festival, he expressed his satisfaction with his selections, stating that they all appeared to be friendly and welcoming establishments.
Fans have showered Paul with praise for his incredible gesture, hailing him as a “legend” and a “top bloke.” Scottish fans, in particular, expressed their appreciation, with one individual declaring, “What a guy,” and another agreeing that he is an “absolute legend.” A comment echoed by many supporters emphasized Paul’s generosity and the impact it would undoubtedly have on those fortunate enough to benefit from his kindness.
With the gates to TRNSMT 2023 now open, festival-goers have the opportunity to enjoy Paul’s performance, scheduled for 4:25 PM on the main stage. Joining him on Friday’s lineup are headliners Pulp, along with George Ezra, former One Direction star Niall, Cat Burns, The Big Moon, and other talented artists. Undoubtedly, among the enthusiastic crowd, there will be many grateful fans who have had the pleasure of availing themselves of Paul’s thoughtful gesture.
