Gigi Hadid in Trouble – Arrested for Possession of Marijuana in Cayman Islands

Model Gigi Hadid and her friend, influencer Leah Nicole McCarthy, were arrested last week in the Cayman Islands for allegedly bringing marijuana into the country. According to Customs and Border Control of the Cayman Islands, a small amount of marijuana was discovered after authorities searched their luggage.

A representative for Hadid told CBS News that the 28-year-old model had purchased the marijuana legally in New York City with a medical license. They also noted that marijuana has been legal for medical use in Grand Cayman since 2017. After being arrested at Owen Roberts International Airport, Hadid and McCarthy were released on bail and paid a fine of around $1,200, though no criminal record was attached.

Posting her reflections to Instagram in the days following the arrest, Hadid shared sweeping views of the beach and ocean she’d enjoyed during her time there. “All’s well that ends well”, she captioned one of the photos. One can only hope this serves as a cautionary tale – that even if you make sure to dot the i’s and cross the t’s on your medicine, it pays to double check what you’re allowed to bring internationally before you make the journey.
