Islamist preacher Anjem Choudary, aged 56, hailing from east London, has been faced with a trio of terror-related charges, as disclosed by the Metropolitan Police. The charges were brought against him following his arrest last week, during which he was apprehended in the company of 28-year-old Khaled Hussein, a Canadian national, who had just arrived at Heathrow Airport.
Choudary’s charges include being a member of a proscribed organization, participating in meetings aimed at inciting support for a proscribed organization, and directing a terrorist organization. Alongside him, Hussein is facing charges of being a member of a proscribed organization.
Scheduled to appear before the Westminster Magistrates’ Court later today, both individuals were taken into custody by Metropolitan counter-terrorism detectives last Monday as part of an ongoing investigation into alleged membership of a proscribed group. The authorities exercised terrorism laws during their detention period until they were formally charged and subsequently remanded in custody ahead of their court appearance.
