The anticipation grows as Jasprit Bumrah is on the verge of reclaiming his position at the helm of India’s pace attack for the forthcoming three T20 internationals in Ireland, scheduled for August 18, 20, and 23. The selection of the squad is just around the corner, and Bumrah’s inclusion seems highly likely.
Since his back surgery in March, Bumrah has been absent from the cricket scene, with his last appearance being in the T20I series against Australia at home back in September 2022. Originally expected to return for the Asia Cup commencing on August 30, the fast bowler has shown remarkable progress in his recovery.
Last week, the BCCI revealed that Bumrah was back to bowling at “full intensity” during net sessions, hinting at a faster-than-expected recovery process. Throughout his rehabilitation journey, Bumrah has diligently increased his bowling workload, further fueling hopes for his comeback.
Ireland holds a significant memory for Bumrah, who previously visited the country in 2018 but suffered a left thumb fracture during the first T20I match, resulting in him missing a portion of the England tour that year.
With the 2023 ODI World Cup on the horizon, Bumrah’s return to action will provide a much-needed boost to India’s preparations. Adding to the excitement, Mohammed Shami is also set to make a comeback during the Asia Cup after a well-deserved rest following his appearance in the World Test Championship final in June. India’s fast bowling duo will undoubtedly form a formidable force, elevating the team’s prospects for the upcoming global events.
